Recently, I had a site visitor write in with an interesting question. She wanted to know how much truth there was to the statement that by getting a reading, we are telling
"God that we don't trust Him and it's like going behind His back".
She had wanted to get a reading done but this comment made by one of her sister's husbands made her stop and question what she was doing. There are really two parts to the statement that should be addressed separately.
The first part of the statement is that if we get a reading we are telling God that we don't trust Him.
In the simplest form, that statement is very true. Since we choose our lives and our life experiences, we should trust that everything we have experienced and everything that we will experience is exactly what needs to happen. And if our faith is that strong, we will never have the need to go searching for other answers.
The husband who brought this up must be a very strong individual with deep faith and he must live his life knowing and trusting that God is guiding him which must make his life worry free (when you trust in God and the process - there really isn't any worry as you know everything is fine). That is the ultimate goal for most us - to get to that state of trust. This is easier said than done for most normal folk. Most of us need help in keeping our faith during the difficult times of our lives.
Most of us who get readings or who are into spiritual development actually believe very deeply in God. It is our trust or faith in God that keeps us moving forward through a lifetime where so many events happen that cause us to question things (often during difficult or emotional times). Or, we are in the process of learning about God and our personal connection which creates the inner drive to get readings so that we can better understand the connection and how it all works.
It is not so much that we don't trust God, but it is more a question of us not trusting ourselves or trusting that we are following the path that God wants us to follow. We usually get readings for understanding and guidance to ensure we are following God's wishes. And of course it is about getting encouragement and hope for the path we are walking. It gives us a chance to learn to build our faith and it is part of a process that helps us develop and grow.
Those of us who use readings to understand and get guidance are usually developing our spiritual side and our belief and faith in a Higher Power. When we get to the point where we have total trust and faith, we don't need readings. Readings simply make the path easier for us.
If there is anything that my path has taught me, it is that I now have a very strong belief in God and a solid foundation of faith. My understanding of how things work has completely changed since I started investigating the Spirit World. I am almost at the stage that the husband is at...but not quite. Most of my days are filled with peace and trust. There is only the odd day now where I would say I worry about the events that are taking place in my life. And my guess is that once my faith is complete and I am worry free, the last of what is supposed to happen will actually materialize. It will be because my trust and faith is complete to the point it needs to be for what I have chosen to learn in this life.
So, it is not that we don't trust God but it is more that we either:
- don't trust ourselves and our decisions
- don't trust our intuition or what we feel to be true in our hearts
- are being influenced by outside forces so we are looking for assurance that what we are feeling is right for us - and that what others are telling us may not actually be right for us
- that our fears are taking over and we want help in getting back to whatever state of faith that we do have
- are looking for hope and encouragement while going through difficult life experiences
And remember, if we get readings asking God to make decisions for our life (ie. "tell me what to do") or if we trust what we are getting through a reading instead of trusting our intuition (especially when our intuition is telling us something different) we will usually be lead down the garden path. In other words, things won't turn out as expected. If the reading however, confirms what we feel to be true in our heart (once we eliminate the fear) then it has done its job.
As for the second part of the statement, it's like going behind His back...
First of all, God knows ALL so we can't go behind His back. And I can't speak for readings from other people, but I can say that when a person gets a reading from us, we are NOT going behind God's back or trying to hide anything in any way.
Before we do any readings, we say a prayer to God that goes something like this,
Heavenly Father,
Please guide, guard and protect us as we strive towards thee. Please help us to get the information that we need to get for "name of person" and help us to guide them on their path and give them the information that will help them. Help us to interpret the symbols correctly. Ensure all information comes from God and from no other. Let us not be influenced by any negativity and surround us in your light and your love.
In the name of Jesus the Christ.
Amen
So, when we do a reading we are first praying to God so He knows what is going on - we are making Him aware of the the fact that we want His guidance and His attention.
The Spirit Guides that come to us are Messengers of God. They come from Him and they ensure that the information that we get is what the person needs to know or understand for the particular path they are following.
Personally, I pray every day several times a time (as I'm sure the husband does). I often say my life is one living prayer because in order for me to get through all of the tests that I have had to endure, my faith and my prayers have become a necessary way of life. This is a deeply personal and private connection and I don't walk around telling people that I pray so much (it would probably make people uncomfortable) or even discuss my belief in God (unless asked).
The bottom line is we have to follow our hearts and what it tells us. If it feels right NOT to get readings, then don't. Trust the feeling but don't worry about God and going behind His back. God has given us the tools to make our connection to Him stronger so that He can reassure us of our decisions and our life paths. Readings are a gift from God to help us when and if we need it. He doesn't tell us how to live our lives but rather tries to give us understanding and guidance based on what we have decided to learn in this lifetime.
