In the Online Meditation Group this past month we practiced an
exercise called "Silhouettes". In the exercise, Members of the
group had to "tune-in" and tell me what picture was posted on
the wall in my living room. This was supposed to be a fun exercise
but many found it to be frustrating and do you know what caused
most of the stress? Trying too hard! As soon as someone started
trying too hard, he or she set up an energy block which actually
worked to keep the information from being received.
One of the students asked her Guide why she was having so much
difficulty seeing the picture and she was told that she was trying
too hard. In her meditation session, he showed her a feather
floating down gently down towards her and when she tried too
hard, the feather was blown away from her instead of being received.
If she hadn't tried so hard, the feather would have floated to
her gently and effortlessly.
This same principle should be applied to your daily life. You
need to learn to go with the flow and let things happen. When
you don't have to try so hard to make something happen, your
life will become less stressful.
Have you ever tried to make something happen in your life and
then found yourself becoming totally frustrated with the lack
of progress? We've all done this at one time or another. Relationships
are probably the first place you may try too hard. If it isn't
working out the way you want, you may try to force the other
person to like you or spend time with you which can actually
push the other person further away. If your relationship is not
meant to last, then you can make an emotionally painful situation
last longer than necessary.
Trying to make your business a success is also an area where
you can often try too hard. You may invest too much money, become
a workaholic ignoring family and friends, and ultimately learn
to hate the very thing that you wanted to become successful at
in the first place.
I have often tried too hard in my own business. For example,
I will have a number of readings waiting to be completed so I
sit down to tune-in and get information and find I have to exert
a lot of effort to receive images that are slow in coming and
difficult to put together to make any sense. This would get me
frustrated because I would start thinking of the people waiting
for their readings and feel bad because they had to wait which
would put all kinds of pressure on myself.
Then I began to learn to go with the flow. If the information
didn't flow, I would stop the reading and wait until later in
the day or until the next day and trust that the person would
receive the reading when they were meant to get it. With that
attitude, I find that the information flows without any effort
on my part. When I wasn't trying so hard, things went smoothly.
The same process happened when I tried to write an article. If
I tried to force it, I would find myself sitting for a long period
of time trying to get it to make sense but when I went with the
flow, articles were written quickly and with inspiration.
Learning to go with the flow AND trust your intuition will make
your journey easier and it is the key to less frustration and
less stress in your life. Of course, there are times where it
will be meant for you to try harder because you are learning
the lesson of perseverance (or some other lesson) but your intuition
will tell you that this is the time to actually try harder.
We often put out too much effort out of fear of change or letting
go. If you are not sure if you should be putting in so much effort
then stop trying. Get yourself to a state of calm and do not
think about what the outcome "should be". If you are meant to
continue trying, you will receive all kinds of feelings, urges
or messages that tell you that now is not the time to stop.
If things become more peaceful, you feel better, or you don't
feel the urge to put out more effort then you know you were trying
too hard.
Going with the flow and not trying so hard is a lesson that we
can all benefit from learning and living!
