I wasn't exactly sure how to meditate, but I knew I wanted to try. So in preperation for the big event, I went to grab a tape ("Kitaro") which always does a fantastic job of relaxing me. But when I went to get it, it wasn't there! I put out an APB and began a massive search throughout my house. It was just nowhere to be found.
That night as I lay down to sleep, I couldn't stop thinking about this cassette. Where could it be? When did I last listen to it? Did I lend it to somebody? Nothing clicked. Then, as I began to drift off (entering what I later learned was the Alpha state of consciousness), I seen a quick image in my mind's eye of a woman doing laundry. (Nobody I knew. She was a real Donna Reed / Leave it to Beaver type-mom.) Well, being half asleep, I naturally blew it off and continued to get comfy. Then a few minutes later, a great big bottle of laundry detergent appeared in my mind. This, I thought, was a little strange. But again, I let it go.
Then almost instantly, a final image popped into my head. This one was a big, black boombox. Almost identical to the one I keep downstairs in my laundry room! Tired as I was, I quickly made the connection, jumped up, and ran downstairs. I headed straight for my boombox, and guess what... there on the floor - where I SWEAR I'd looked at least ten times before - was the tape I'd been searching for all day! Amazing!
So you see how that works. Not only does that prove that your mind continues to work long after your body is physically exhausted, but it also shows us that God is happy to help once we're quiet enough to listen and let Him.

Hi Holly,
Actually, the times before you fall asleep and the time just as you awaken are two of the most highly meditative states where you can receive messages from Spirit very clearly.
It is very normal to see visions just prior to falling alseep or just before you are fully awake.
