Garnelle

Later, a neighbor came over to welcome us to the area. She had lived around there for a long time, so I just casually asked her about the former occupants. She told me about a family that had lived there years before. They, too, loved their life on the old farm. They also had five children - just like us. The mother, Garnelle, always had a big garden, right where Steve had seen her picking cucumbers! Garnelle had died of cancer after raising all her children in that house.

We lived in that house for eight years, and I loved every minute there. I cooked on a wood stove, and many times while I was cooking, Garnelle would be in the kitchen with me. She especially liked the days when I made pickles! Sometimes she was in the barn while I was milking the goats, or sitting on the bed with me when I tucked the children in at night. It was always a comfortable feeling, knowing that Garnelle and I shared the same love of family and farm.

I love it when children see those in Spirit. They haven't yet learned to shut it all out so you get some very interesting stuff.
