I always have several projects on the go, but often find that I procrastinate when it comes to actually starting or completing them. Sometimes it just feels overwhelming to think about all I have to do. Sometimes, there are fears associated with a project. Sometimes, old memories get in the way. So when I saw this Tapping Meditation for Overcoming Procrastination by Nick Ortner, I thought I should give it a try. After all, I had nothing to lose!
The first thing I noticed when doing this meditation what that there was a lot of fear associated with getting this particular project started. I could feel it in my solar plexus - the seat of the emotions.
Then as I practiced the technique, I noticed that old memories - past experiences that I considered "failures" were coming into my thoughts. This showed me how much my past experiences were influencing my current situation. Even though there wasn't any reason to believe I would have a similar experience because I was making changes and doing things differently, I realized how much those old memories were influencing me.
I have to admit that it wasn't pleasant having those feelings. They really made me feel uncomfortable and I wanted them to leave or change.
As the meditation continued, the tone of it changed and Nick leads you past recognizing any negative thoughts or feelings that are holding you back to positive thoughts and feelings. At that point, I started to feel a bit excited. The fear was still there, but I also started to feel excited at the prospect of where this project might lead. I also started seeing positive outcomes in my mind's eye.
So by the end of the meditation, I felt less fear and more excited about the prospect of working on this project.
If you are having trouble getting started with a particular project - putting something off doing that you feel you should be doing, then try this tapping meditation. It's easy to do and you just might be surprised at what you experience.
